Tell ya what, Guy...all I know is you are extremely adept at getting those little 'bells' to start ringing for me...

Of course we can't hear the sound thereof...

204 posts Paulie, and still you haven't answered most of my questions.

Makes me think you don't want to answer them.

Guy, up to now I have been one of your biggest fans...but now you are starting to fray my nerves...

My whole post on 'gender strifes' was dedicated to you...

Most of the time I just simply can't make head nor tails of your questions -
to be honest.

I hate to lose a fan...

I appreciate that you thought of me when writing Gender Stifes...it was indeed a window to your soul.

My questions have all been posed in the spirit of the threads starts, I would like to think. Tamara has been able to answer, and quite thoughtfully.

Tell you what...let's drop all my questions save one. You quoted Aquinas' writings earlier and I asked that we talk about the Five Ways. Can you follow that up with more comment? To refresh your memory

Try reading a work by someone such as St Thomas Aquinas - you must realize that there are many different perspectives of education...

All I can remember is that I referenced some of his work for a thesis paper...interesting, noble and enlightening from what I recall.

I am not too much into the Catholic chuch tradition...so probably didn't dig too deeply into his thought life...

Those guys usually lived to the hilt what they felt was a true conviction...I think of a Mother Theresa type of existence...

We fall so far short of what true dedication is - yet we often might say that we are doing our best.

It's my feeling that we can always be doing more...and better!

To: MoonchildInTheMidstOfTheRavenBlackNight:

I thought that we - hypothetically of course - could entertain the thought of my being the 'Center of the Universe' - as you so adeptly put it.

Now...let's say that I was indeed the Center of the Universe and you - just for instance - wanted to find me there. Well, I hardly think that it would be a place that you could find on a road map from Texaco - so...There I am...sitting all alone in the Center of the Universe...no - wait...I AM the >Center of the Universe - so how could I possibly be sitting there...maybe standing...well, that's besides the point! What I was saying was...let's pretend you are trying to find me there - and your map is just not that detailed.

Now we have ascertained that the speed of light is somewhere around 300,000 KM per second (excuse me but the ground here is swaying like crazy right now - a real earthquake!)...the kids are really excited...its like a 'wild ride!'...back to my - somewhat mute - point. So say I wasn't the Center of the Universe - let's say just a couple of degrees off! Well - if you were to try and find me and were just a tad off - just imagine how far off you might be after travelling a few light years!! Why - you might never even come close!!

Also, as for my 'medication' you - and Guy - ARE my medication! The Bible says that "laughter doeth good like a medicine - but a broken spirit drieth the bones" I don't know if you guys realize this, but I go home laughing hard enough to 'split a gut' after I read these posts! Especially Guy's - I mean that guy doesn't apparently have a serious bone in his body!... Laughing

I had a serious bone in my body once...it broke, they took it out, and now I'm a GOOF.

I really wish I could say the same of reading your posts Paulie, but rather than laugh, I feel sad. I imagine those who are denied their full potential in your classroom.

Honestly, I think you could be a better teacher. That's not me asking that you abandon your faith, nor accept mine. That's me asking that you present a more well-rounded picture of things to your students.

Depends on the context...in the classroom, I have much faith in my students (TEFLers or EFLers) ability to make their own decisions, measure their own progress, and chart their own course.

In my personal life, alone, my faith is bound in nature (maybe what you call God).

If you really want to see what the devil is doing with the word 'faith' these days - try checking out the Marilyn Manson vidieo 'Reach out and touch faith' - it it truly a commentary on our time... Twisted Evil

Marilyn Manson IS the devil...or haven't you heard?

Quote:
truly a commentary on our time
is an oft-used phrase, always negatively. There were bad things to say about every epoch in human history, and there will be bad things to say about every future epoch to come. I think that little by little we grow, not towards any predefined goal. We just grow, react, and react again.

It's funny to me to see how nature never works in extremes...only overlapping shades of green, blue, and brown. It is only a human trait to try to paint it all as one color...be it black or white.

Tel me , Guy...what information have you found that confirms the fact that 'Marilyn Manson IS the devil'?...no - I simply don't think that the devil is that obvious...

more like...

...a fallen spiritual being whose only REAL power is that which we allow him to hve through mortal disobedience to a Creator whose wisdom far surpasses all that we could ever hope to attain.

There is - after all - a true cohesion in this expansive universe...though a seemingly fragile one to be sure!!!
