Any of you felt the need to do this because your tefl job was so crap?
I mean more or less a job that you fear handing in your notice will stop you receiving any money at all.
What conditions would cause you to do this and when, where, why have you done it ?
The horse is about to bolt! |

Check the Korea forum. Lots of folks do a midnight run from Korea. I extended and finished my contract there, but thought about running once or twice. I think the usual situation is the bosses expect(as someone on that board put it)...a little more...a little more...a little more from teachers who eventually break. Also, the teacher is often getting paid late or not at all anyway.
It certainly gives teachers a bad rap when someone does it. But then...I guess there must be a bunch of bad schools/bosses out there giving good reason for teachers to run, since we hear about it so often. |

I have only done it once. At an unnamed university here in Mexico. And it was after 3 days of working there as head of languages and culture. I had time to check files made by previous folks in my position. The late payments sounded chronic. It was also interesting that the rector told me he had all 3 degrees from Harvard--yet didn't speak English.
I told the vice-rectors I was not the right person for them. They did the begging and pleading routine. I told them I would sleep on it, and if I wsn't there in the morning I was gone.
I was on the early morning bus to another--much better job. What did I care about 3 day's salary...? |

I left Korea after three months but didn't really run - absolutely horrendous vile place that I hope I never have the misfortune to see again. |

I have always completed every contract I've had. But at the end of my contract in Doha... boy did I run on to the plane as quickly as possible |
