as a female considering a job in HCM city, i was wondering if any past or present women teachers had any insights to pass along about working and living in vietnam.
particularly dress code... what is/isn't acceptable teaching/non-teaching apparrel? for example, although i wouldn't wear a tank top to work, what about for walking around town? and would a pair of nice sandals be okay for work, or are closed-toe shoes more appropriate? i realize it's hot hot hot all year-round, but i also realize that different tropical countries have varying standards of modesty, and obviously there's a necessity to look professional at work.
also, what is the general attitude of the vietnamese towards single white/western women? will i have men on the street asking me to marry them, or do white women simply attract the same amount of attention as white men?
thanks a lot... any other comments and suggestions welcome, too! |
