any old fast hands out there?

Oh yeah. I worked in the Pendik branch in about 1993 then I was transferred to Mecidiyek�y and stayed about three and half years. Wow a blast from the past

Interesting for me to see this post today. It was 4 years ago today that I had an interesting chat via interpretor, I'm not sure where the partner I originally interviewed with was who spoke English, I was told........."so, as you know it is very expensive for us to send you back to the United States to get your work permit. What are you going to do about it?"

When I replied "Well, its very expensive for me to send myself back to the United States too. I'm willing to pay for half of it."

I was told "ok, your terminated. oh and Merry Christmas."

When I signed the contract, you could get work permits in Turkey. When I arrived, you had to leave the country to get it. By the time something was done, you had to go to your home country to get it.

I felt really bad for my adult students. I was their 8th instructor in a very short time period. I really enjoyed that group. I still hear from some of the younger students I had. They are now beginning to enter University.

I'm having a much better Christmas this year! Very Happy

When I first came to Ist almost all the teachers I met either worked for English Fast or had worked for them. Just several years later that had all changed. It all seems to have fragmented and it is a free for all.

Does anyone know what happened to Nazif and his wife, also the old manager from Kadikoy. I know Ian the old general DOS is working for Izmir Econmics Uni and has been drying out recently.

I'm also ex-Fast : Izmir branch '93-'98.

When I arrived in Izmir in '93 it was the best and biggest language school (several diploma teachers, mostly long stayers) but now it's very different. At one time they were only teaching kids and now I know of no native speaker teachers there.

Steve Darn and Ian White are both at the Economy Uni., as is Rob Ledbury. Some other ex-Fasties are still in Izmir, some still in teaching, others in business eg Phillip Morris.

Last time I heard anything of Nazif Bey was when Turkey approved the teaching of Kurdish and I heard Nazif commenting on BBC worldservice radio.

I'm not an ol Eng Fast person, but I know some people from there. Nazif is selling a computer program for learning Kurdish. He is trying to get back into the dil okulu game.
Greg, the old manager from Kadikoy, has his own language school in Sisli now.

I don't know if it is still in operation. The owner now runs a kurdish school. The last I heard they only employed Turkish teachers. But it is not the place it used to be. How the mighty have fallen.
