Hi I don't know if this is the right place to post this but didn't know where else. I have just finished my primary(elementary) school teaching qualifications in Australia. I really want to work in an international school in Eastern Europe. However most schools don't hire teachers until September. I also have ESL qualifications and am thinking of going to a language school in Moscow til September. Do you think that prospective internationals schools would look down on me going back to a language school after I obtained my teaching credentials? I guess what I'm asking is would it be a good move careerwise? |

First you should know that there are big differences between "International Schools" and TEFL.
If you are qualified as a "REAL" teacher then take a look at www.cois.org and www.ecis.org
Both sites allow you to do a search by country for International Schools which are members of those two organisations.
Often listed schools advertise teaching vacancies on their own sites (available via ecis and cois)

Thanks for your reply and the web addresses Rogan.
I know that there are vast differences between language schools an international schools. I'm hoping to get a job in an international school but as I probably won't be able to get a job til September am thinking of filling my time between now and then at a language school. I was wondering if international schools would look favourably on me going to a language school after finishing my teaching credentials. |

International school jobs are usually very difficult to get. You'll likely need at least two years experience teaching in your content area, international living experience, and a Masters degree.
You may get lucky, but don't assume that having teaching credentials will get you a job. A few months teaching in a language school doesn't count for a whole lot. |

I am qualified to teach in the state secondary sector in England and Wales, albeit in science. However, I hope that this should not matter too much, considering that I also have a Trinity Certificate in TESOL and, by the end of January 2005, three full years of teaching experience in China, including one full year at the public primary school where I am teaching now.
It should be in January that schools should start advertising for September, so I am definitely keeping both eyes out for something like a post at an International School. Although I may just stay at the primary school, as I have my family (wife and daughter) here (I have not made a final decision as yet), I could apply to a few International Schools just to test the proverbial waters ... |

My friend has one after taking his PGCE in the UK and then teaching for a year at a London primary school. No masters. |
