I stayed for several weeks at the Taipei Hostel. Both the owners and the other guests were very friendly. They were able to help me find an apartment and told me great places to go to get a cell phone, etc.
This hostel is located next to the Shandao Temple MRT station which is just several stations away from the Taipei 101 building. Various night markets can be found in the smaller areas near the hostel.
I felt absolutely safe both at the hostel and around Taipei in general.
Good luck on your travels! |

I can also recommend the Taipei Hostel. The airbus from the airport will take you to the Sheraton hotel which is just nearby. If you phone then the staff will give you directions on how to get there. Or I could just give them to you.
Facing the Sheraton hotel...
Turn left and go to the cross roads nearby.
Go to the giraffe school. Diagonally opposite.
Turn left down this street and take the first alley to your right.
Go to the end of the alley. You will see the sign on your left.
Go to the 6st floor.
Say hello.
Sorry, don't have any street names on me. I tried to find a couple of the other hostels but without success, even with their brochers.
If you are after night markets then snake alley should be your first choice. Ask anyone where it is. |
