I didn't ask for anyone's advice nor anyone's opinion on my idea. I know my plan could work, but what I didn't know was if anyone was interested. So instead of a thread on possible opportunities, I ended up with a discussion on conversation school policies and legalities. Perhaps I should start up a new thread, since I'm sure that if anyone who would be interested in an exchange would be scared off by this discussion.

I don't mind criticism, but I do mind people giving me unsolicited advice and being talked down to as if I don't know anything. I put out an offer. If it isn't viable, I won't get any replies and I'll forget that I ever thought of such a silly idea.

As it stands now, I haven't gotten one person remotely interested. I got four posters, two nay-sayers and two supporters. So I'd say it's been a failure so far.

I think you are being a little precious, here. By posting in this forum and not on a classifieds site or something more suitable to somebody who doesn`t want any feedback other than `That`s a good idea`, you have invited responses that are not what you want to hear.

Sorry but that`s reality - your idea was floated in a Japan discussion forum and those who understand the implications of such an idea in the real world, gave honest replies. If you are looking for somebody to say that it`s a good idea and they want to do that with you, then it is better to post in a different kind of forum. That`s all.

It is your choice regarding where to post this that has invited realistic responses that are telling you what actually goes on in the real world of Japan at the present time. Sure, go right ahead and do what you like - it is your prerogative even if it may turn out to be on at a high price such as legal trouble and believe me, Japanese Immigration is getting tougher, not easier - but if you don`t want to hear honest opinions then please post elsewhere. That`s all.

Regarding "what to make of ALS," bear in mind that ALS has two types of schools, branch and franchise. Branch schools tend to be uniform (obviously) and pretty decent. However, with the franchise schools you are left to the fate of the owner. If the owner is OK, you should have no problems. But, some owners are known to be cheap, sexist, weird, invisible, etc. As for the 10-year vet who "didn't know" about the visa, I don't think he's bright enough to "pull a fast one." I'll allow you to fill in your blanks there.

What about the visa ? How are you going to get round that problem. You plan to work in Japan illegally. Hmmmmmm!

So then, that was my mistake for posting my offer in a discussion forum. Though I really couldn't post this offer in a jobs wanted classified, since those who would look there are probably only employers or job seekers. My target group is people with jobs.

This question is a good example of the kind of post that is guaranteed to irritate. Someone posts an idea and asks for reaction or comments. When the comments are negative the poster decides that he is being flamed.

Look - If I ask a question like "How can I get to France from the USA without a passport ?', you should expect people to point out that this will be difficult, impossible or maybe illegal.

Don't then loose your cool becasue we are being negative.

I didn't ask for anyone's opinion in my post, (please refer back to the first message of this thread) I asked if anyone wanted to do an exchange. It would be the same as if I wanted to sell my car. If I posted, "SUV for sale $10,000" I would expect people to only reply with offers to buy or questions about the car. I wouldn't want anyone to reply with,"SUVs are bad for the environment, who would want a car like that?.", or "This is Japan, not California, you can't park big cars like that here."

Wouldn't you take offense at remarks like that, if your only intention was to sell a car? Now if someone replied with"This is a job discussion forum, not a classifieds board, so this kind of message is not appropriate." Then I would acknowledge my mistake and never do such a thing again.

desitom,

Posting your announcement as you did was fair in my opinion. If you advertise for a SUV, you just might get those sort of nasty remarks, and those are flames. If you want a better response, post again. You can also expect some sort of replies if you post in www.jobsinjapan.com or even on www.ohayosensei.com and www.lonelyplanet.com. Probably the best place would be www.gaijinpot.com (just choose the right section).

Good luck.
