Are their any guidebooks, such as lonely planet styles, that focus on osaka?
Any recommendations?

I did a bit of searching before coming over and found nothing of the sort. I did find that the Lonely Plant guide has the most info on Osaka in it, albeit a small amount.

Not sure what you are looking for- travel or practical info, but here are the links to a couple of sites that have good living info:

Lonely Planet's "Kyoto" guidebook isn't too bad. Of course it highlights Kyoto, but also does a decent job of discussing Nara and Osaka as surrounding areas. Depending on your needs, I'd buy it before the entire Japan LP, unless of course you will be traveling around Japan.

I have looked, and have both of those LP titles.
I have found stuff for learning the Osaka dialect.

There is Kansai Time Out, which is a magazine that comes out regularly.

Here`s a book: The Best of Kansai: Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe (restaurants, sights, bars, entertainment, shopping, services)- by John Ashburne. Published by Tuttle in 1998.

check out Maruzen or Junkudo in Kobe or Osaka (Umeda). Maybe you`ll find something. You can find guides for Kobe or Kyoto, but for Osaka it`s tougher. Kobe has a big expat community and Kyoto gets the tourists.
