Does anyone have any recent experience with working in Riga?

I lived and worked in Riga in the late 80's/early 90's and since then have toyed with the idea of returning. The last time I was there was in '93. Of course it's changed a lot since then.

I'm going for a visit over Christmas and New Year and thought I'd use the opportunity to check out some work opportunities while I'm there.

Are there any language schools in Riga? If so, are there any worth checking out? How easy is it to get private students?

And any other information anyone has on working in Riga would be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently working in Tokyo. I have a BA + TESOL and experience teaching children and adults. I have both an Australian and Latvian passport.

Thanks in advance for any information.

There are several langauge schools that hire native speakers Berlitz and IH are in Riga as well as a few local schoos.
and all of them will be happy you have a Latvian passport as Visas are even more beaucratic post EU (except for UK citizens of course)
as for private lessons you will usually need some contacts in order to find students, speaking Latvian or Russian is a big help you can expect to get paid $10-25 per hour depending on who you are tutoring

monthly salaries average between $1000-$1500 (less if flight visa and rent are included)

i know it is a bit late azarashi sushi but you could also check out satva- they employ teachers illegally to avoid tax but mates have worked there and say its not too bad. there is also the place in the melnais kakis building in vecriga. they have pretty good conditions- can't remember the name of the place.

IH Riga was called SATVA, so now there is no SATVA. IH is really big there - probably the biggest in Riga.
They seem really professional and impressive. I wonder what it's like there.
