I've just changed mine yet again so the following refers to my previous pic. Just in case you get confused.
I picked my current one(it was a picture of "Beat" Takeshi Kitano - Japanese actor) simply coz I like Asian action cinema (amongst others) Mine's a still from Azuma aka Violent Cop, a ground breaking Japanese movie from 1989. I think characters in movies like Gonin and Gonin2 are cool. If the same characters were transported into American or European movies and played by a westerner, it just wouldn't do it for me. There is just something about cool asian films. Jon Woo stuff from HK and Chow yun Fat - often corny but, hell V.cool. Score, the Japanese movie that massively inspired Reservior Dogs, complete with black suits with skinny ties and a warehouse to meet up and divide the loot. I lap that stuff up.
I notice someone has a Joy Division Cover (excellent) also there's a Bowie cover and well known characters. But why did you choose yours? What does it mean to you? Does it reflect the real you or the you you wish to project?
It'd be cool to know.
Cheers to anyone who bothers to answer ,
The Cardinal
PS my original pic was of GOGO Yubari(from Kill Bill vol1) coz she's is way way cool and mental. Also the actress who plays her is super hot.
PPS. My new one is from the Young Ones comedy show. It reminds me of where I picked up my own education!

I'm American. Our media is twisted. That's why I get all my news from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In case you don't know it, it is a comedy news show on Comedy Central in the US. I think CNN plays a once-a-week international edition, too. Real news with great laughs.
Oh, and I tried 2 other avatars of myself with my favorite dog...couldn't get them to work...didn't try very hard, though. |

Mine is my tattoo (minus the red box around it)--Dionysus, the Greek god of wine. I was nearly a classics major, I found him to be fascinating, and my parents unintentionally (I presume) named me after him: Denise=wine goddess.

That's me! Glad you like them as well. It's the cover to "Unknown Pleasures" - the dark but energetic 1979 album by Joy Division. It's too intense for frequent listening, but it's the ultimate antidote to superficiality. It's one of my favourite albums of all time (the reason for the avatar choice), alongside "The Idiot" by Iggy Pop, "Naturally" by JJ Cale and "LA Woman" by The Doors.
I can sometimes recognise avatars and their sources. Ricepaddy's is from the brilliant British science fiction comic 2000 AD - it's an "Irish" judge who meets up with Judge Dredd. Atlas's is from the film "The Time Bandits". And is a giant with a boat on his head. |

I chose mine because I think it's a really good representation of my personality.
I tried to change it a short while back, but the PM response was, overwhelmingly, "Change it back!" So I did.

Also, he (its a boy) looks strong and maybe the leader of the pack, top dog and he seems to be going somewhere for a reason.
Not reflecting my personality in any way!

My last job was in the Czech Republic. One of the key pieces of literature there is the "Good Soldier Sjvek" by Jaroslav Hasek. I read part of the book at a friend's house, loved it, used one of the illustrations of Sjvek. Sjvek is a great European hero. We could use more of him. |

Good to hear your responses. I really like your pic too Coleen - the fact that it's thumbnail sized, gives it an extra something. DMB's is funny and goofy. Does it reflect his personality by any chance? Shapespeare, I LOVE joy division, though my choice of verb may be inappropriate! I still remember the first time I heard Transmission in my mate's house - his older sister had just bought a copy of the single. Showing my age here! Atmosphere and Novelty are amongst my favs.
Iggy's great too. Though I probably get more of a kick listening to the Stooges stuff (esp. Funhouse and Raw Power) than the Idiot, it is still a great album and I think the Berlin vibe of Nightclubbing is excellent and cool. I do like the contrast between The Idiot and Lust for Life. As far as I know, The Idiot was done on heroin and Lust for Life was done when he was clean. Explains a lot about the vibe of each. Of course there's a real Bowie feel to Iggy's stuff of that peroid for reasons fans of both artists will be familiar with. I prefer Iggy's version of China Girl and was lucky enough to see him perform it live in Glasgow years and years ago. Spinoza, I think Heroes is great too and it sits well with Iggy's stuff as they were both in Berlin at the time doing rock n roll sh1t. Low springs to mind too. Ironic that he (or his record company should I say) should release Starting Point in the same year (laughing Gnome et al). Sorry if I'm boring people here with obscure stuff but music is a big passion of mine.
I've seen the Daily Show on CNN - I even managed to understand it and laugh!! Denise, you are the goddess of wine? Excellent! I thought the Essendon avatar was referring to some football club in Germany. How wrong I was! Mehrlin26 I have pondered the origin of your pic (I must get a life) and now we all know! Yay!
Vre, how do you know your doggy is a he? Where is he going? Reminds me of a beautiful Belgian Shepherd (female) I used to have (or hang out with as I don't like the thought of "owning" a dog). |

I like to use that little space over there on the left as another window to express myself. Normally, I keep a pic of jolly old me there. Today, baking cookies is on the to-do list, so there's the first batch. |
