Dear AT
The clueless pedants are you and Loonravin' who have decided that the phrase "Goodwill to all men" does not include women.
It is clear to all but those that look for excuses everywhere to back up their private ideologies that the original poster was being inclusive.
The truth is that most people don't give a monkey's toss for the fossilized feminism that you and Loonravin' wish to thrust down our throats.

Well said - about the monkey's toss bit.
There are some posts on this forum that make me think that if their author's IQ was any lower they would need watering.

Please do tell me, Mr Jones, exactly where I have tried to thrust anything down your evidently very delicate and susceptible throat.

Your politically correct notion of English usage (deciding that the word men should still mean "humankind") is perfectly fine for the year 1935 -- and for the Middle East and Sri Lanka. You are thoroughly welcome to maintain that usage.

No, he isn't welcome. I personally will shun him like the toxic reactionary buffoon that he is.

And for the other guy who's so interested in IQs--I would be willing to bet that his is considerably lower than 160. Not that IQs mean a whole lot....

What a bunch. They all deserve each other ...

That's me! It was a light-hearted and playful comment. Harmless banter.
Another thing about some of the posters on this forum is that they clearly have NO sense of humour.

Some posters have a great sense of humor. You just aren't one of them.

I certainly hadnt predicted that the thread would go in the direction of "'Goodwill to all men' is inherently sexist" - but then that's so much of the fun of this forum... Smile

Is "One step for man, a giant leap for mankind" (or something like that) also implicitly sexist? Maybe they didn't have any women working on the moon landings... In any case, I was quoting the "Goodwill to all men" thing from something which I deemed to be archaic - something which was almost certainly implicitly sexist when it was first coined, but that is usable now owing to people being pragmatic enough to reason that sexism is not (automatically) implied when phrases such as this are used in this day and age. (What a sentence!).

The moon landing was in 1969. The elimination of sexist language (use of ms., for example--and chairperson instead of chairman--except in the case of Mao, I guess) began in 1971....

Sigh.
Compared to you, I am one of the most amusing, witty and hilarious purveyors of fine humour that has ever walked this earth, but that really isn't saying much. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I dare you to write something funny!

Or something even faintly humourous....

That ought to keep you quiet until you reach retirement age, boy-o.

I'm sticking up for CS. I find many of his posts funny.
BTW what happened to the Goodwill that Leeroy mentioned in the title?
