Hi.

Does anyone know if any schools offer short term contracts. I won't be moving to Mexico until the very end of August and will be living in Guanajuato. I will be there for 4 months and will not need accomodation.
I really don't know where to look for jobs. Doesn't seem to be very many posted on this site and wondered if there was somewhere else I should be looking.
Any info would be great!!

I don't think you'll find an abundance of short-term job offerings in ads on the Internet. Most employers look for at least a 6-month commitment and often prefer longer. If you plan to arrive at the very end of August, many schools that start in September don't finish their terms until the end of January or first of February and would expect you to stay until end of term.

Your best bet might simply be being there and available should something open up such as replacing a teacher who had to leave part way through a term, which does happen sometimes. However, the employer would probably still expect you to commit through end of term, so you'd need to replace someone where the term ended before you had to leave.

Another thing to consider is that if you plan to work legally, the cost and procedure involved in getting a work visa is hardly worth it if you plan on staying only 4 months.

If you're looking for experience and money/salary isn't an issue for you, you might consider volunteering as a teachers' assistant or conversation partner at a school or university in Guanajuato.

I agree with Ben Round--especially in regard to working legally here. Although some schools only give you a six month contract, the expectation on the part of the Immigration folks is that you are going to be working for a year.
