So Western men can go to Asia with a virtual guarantee of having lots of um... "interaction" with beautiful, obsequious women. That's great.
Where can Western women go for numerous social opportunities with beautiful men?* I'm not talking about misogynistic countries where men chase you down the street because you "look American" and they've bought into the stereotype of American women being easy and/or rich (e.g., I'm white and I could have slept with a different gorgeous guy every night in Jamaica had I so desired but I also couldn't go anywhere without being harassed). I'm talking about a place where Western (specifically, USAmerican) women are respected and attitudes regarding foreign women dating HCNs are, for the most part, relaxed.
So tell me, ladies - where would you recommend an international dating experience?
Eagerly awaiting your replies,
-ggg
*Yes, this is a shallow query, but I think you'll find that more than one male poster here has listed "beautiful women" as a requisite for a good quality of life in any particular country. Well, don't women deserve a good quality of life too? |

Sadken ~ while it's true I do have a penchant for British boys, I'll only forgive you for that comment because you joined on my birthday. |

In both the Czech Republic and Japan, I met men (locals and fellow foreigners) who were interested in me. The odds may be against us (most foreign guys prefer local chicks--whether as trophies or as partners in serious, equal relationships; local men may hold weird stereotypes of us), but it is never impossible. There will always be men who see through the stereotypes of both foreign and local women. Good luck!

I must say from living in Japan, it's must more common for foreign men to be with Asian women than for Asian men to be with foreign women. I actually did meet a Japanese guy, through the internet actually. No, he wasn't a pscyho:) He was actually a really nice guy who was just too shy to approach foreigners in public for fear of being reject or rude to. In Japan, there is a magazine call metropolis(Tokyo Classifieds) for foreigners. There are many ads for people looking for friends, partners, etc. You really have to search as yes, some of them can be psychos or people just obsessed with foreigners.
According to my Japanese ex, it is difficult for asian men to approach foreign women because we were considered strong and may be too dominating, so that intimidated them. I had to smile when he told me that. So if you do get lucky and you get approached by a nice Asian guy, he's got guts:) |

I don't think it is shallow at all Triple G. I think social interaction with the locals, specifically the dating scene, is something both men and women should consider before deciding to move overseas to a new country for a year or two, especially if moving to someplace without a large expat community. I mean, come on, who likes staying at home by themselves every weekend?
I don't have any specific recommendations for you myself, but if I were you, I would probably avoid Asia. Good luck finding a place with gorgeous local men that dig Western women, but don't forget that some of us Western male expats can be pretty hot too
Cheers,
Kirk |

Oh, believe me Kirk, I hadn't excluded Western men from the picture. I'd just rather not go someplace where the Western men have obviously come for a sampling of the exotic local women, thus leaving us gorgeous, fabulous Western women with no one to misbehave with.
Maybe I'll just go to New Zealand - where I'll be the exotic one! I could chuck the whole TEFL idea and find me a sugar daddy... who'll buy me a monkey. Yeah, that sounds like a plan.

well, you know. i've realized--for the umpteenth time in my life, but i'm referring to the most recent--that things are what we make of them. which is to say, sure, most of the foreign guys are interested in local booty, and perhaps "western women" are seen with a bevvy of stereotypes. but that doesn't mean we need to contribute to the stereotypes.
this issue was certainly a concern after my then-boyfriend high-tailed it home two months after our arrival here. i planned on lots of romantic evenings with ... myself.
then i decided to become proactive. some would call it "being sociable." i met some foreign guys, realized i was more interested in the local guys, made a foreign girl friend with whom to check out the scene. and lo and behold: i now have my very own harem of chinese boyfriends.*
you can do it.
*although my roommates claim my "standards" have dropped dramatically and i profess to being more interested in quantity than quality of said boyfriends. |

Now, some people would find that sexist - I find it refreshingly honest.
Good for you.
Have fun as often as possible with as many as possible (Take both possible meanings there !) |

In Latin America virtually every "Western" female teacher not already with a partner was coupled with a Latino guy. Sure, this doens't ,mmeet your no agressive male criteria, but it's a start. Besides, men like Asia because women approach them there. |

So gogo, have you decided on a country? Being a young single new TESOLer myself I wouldn't mind finding out where men won't treat me like a ticket to America.

I have to say that, in the three years that I have been teaching in China, I know only of one British woman who dated - then actually married - a Chinese guy, neither of whom was a colleague of mine, but the woman did (and still does, I think) work for the same chain of private franchised schools. Asian men may be thought of as being too shy to approach foreign women, but that does not stop some of them from trying.
On the other hand, my eyes were somewhat opened fairly recently in my local expat bar/restaurant when I saw some nerdy Chinese guy (spectacles, long face, wearing a winter coat inside - even though it must have been almost 30 degrees Centigrade - and a huge bag over his coat), glass in hand, approach a table full of young white women, some of whom were attired in clothing of questionable taste (and, even then, not much of their bodies was covered! ), and then sit down with them.
All of the women just stared at him like he was crazy, but did nothing to stop him, as they thought he was harmless. Within about five minutes, having nursed his drink nervously, he just got up and walked away. The women were now looking at each other in total disbelief and then at him again, as he shuffled off to the dance floor section of the bar, still holding his drink, and then standing at the edge of the dance floor, motionless. I then stopped looking at him, since my wife had by now returned from the counter with our latest round of (soft) drinks!
Of course, the previous posters were talking about long-term relationships, and I think that it does not take too much detective work to realise that that guy was not after any such relationship. Yet it was a sight that I shan't forget in a hurry! |

Polish men are gorgeous. As are, unfortunately, Polish women. However, there's enough to go round and I certainly had a super time man-wise when I was out there. |
