A total lie that, and the people who met you told me you are as repulsive face to face as you are on line. If you lie about the little things, why should we believe your other claims, like your 3 degrees from 3 different US universities. Obviously, if it were true, they couldn't stand you enough to let you do two at the same uni. In another post you tells us about your PhD in writing Toefl exams, Ph(oney) D(reamer) more likely.

The only connection we had was that we both worked for the system of state universities in Oaxaca--and Mikey's materialistic little nose was out of joint because he was much lower on the food chain--perdon, faculty scale than I was.
Not true, again the saggy hag lies.

As for your advice to listen to Richard Cheney, why? There are other gringos whose advice I respect, and other pseudo-india gringas whose worthless mumblings will now be totally ignored.

I'm now out of the sandpit, it reeks of old crone-piss and I don't want to catch anything. [/b][/quote]

Mike is the liar. There are exactly 4 people in the Oaxaca system who know me, and none of them have met him.

BA English U of Washington 1966
MA English San Francisco State University 1968
PhD English University of Massachusetts 1972

Mike was a lowly Associado B in the Oaxaca state system. He also can't read, as nowhere did I claim to have a PhD in writing TOEFL exams--gives us a break neanderthal man--but that I have designed those exams. I have also designed and taught TOEFL courses for 10 years.

Stay out of the sandbox, oh cretinous one. You ate most of the sand you pissed on anyway.

The Haight in '68. My, I am impressed now, MR.

MR, what do you think of Vine DeLoria? A Native American friend had me read him once.

Also, during your stay in Santa Fe, were you acquainted with St. John's College? Am looking into doing a Masters there.

1967 was The Summer of Love in the Haight--and the summer of our discontent at San Francisco State and UC Berkely, where a number of us--grad student and professors in the Poetry Center primarily, went to jail for protesting the Vietnam War, and the Black Student Union struck against Gov. Ronald Reagan. In 68 we all left the Cal. university system for points east (some of us to teach at universities in the Chicago area like I did, and others to Massachusetts and Rhode Island.)

What do I think of Deloria? In regard to what? He wrote a fairly decent book about a friend of mine, now dead, Frank Waters. I think it was called Frank Waters: Man and Mystic.

Frank was not a Native American, but he wrote several wonderful books about the Hopi. He also wrote the first book which brought folks' attention to the Mayan Prophecies, called Mexico Mystique: The Coming Sixth World of Consciousness.

I spent 10 years in Santa Fe--originally went there as Director of Adult and Continuing Education at the College of Santa Fe. I had quite a bit of contact with St. John's during the time I was there, gave a reading of my poetry there in the late 80s if I remember correctly. Occasionally gave presentations about film there as well, as I was the film critic for the Albquerque Journal North for a number of years--although gave more of those through the Jung Society.

St. John's is/was regarded as an elitist--some would say reactionary--college. I have no idea whether their graduate programs are worthwhile.

I was just wondering what you thought about some of his books on Native American spirituality, such as God is Red, which I found quite interesting at the time.

Yeah, I understand they have a repuatation for being "old-school/reactionary. Just wondered if you'd had any personal contact with them.

I wanted to do my undergrad work there but couldn't swing it. (I ended up with a BA from Indiana in Philosophy instead, which is ok, but rather like St. John's "Great Books" format.) They have a very interesting grad program in Eastern Classics in which all candidates read classics from Japan, China, India, such as the Tao, Gita, etc including some more obscure work, and then study either Classical Chinese or Sanscrit. Not really useful for teaching ESL/EFL per se, but good exercise for the mind. The place attracts a lot of teachers and writers. Dang expensive, though.[/b][/i][/u]

There are boards which permit such behavior. This is not one of them.

If you want my gut reaction to the St. John's option, I would say that the expense is disproportionate to what you'll receive. Since the degrees from there are infrequently useful in the employment marketplace, why not spend the money traveling to the "source" spots and studying in situ? (You'll undoubtedly have some left over....)
