Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone has had any dealings with Benxi Future English Training Center. I need to know ASAP if it is a legit school and if anyone has worked with David Hao. Was also wondering if it is common practice for a school to ask for a passport copy via the net. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide!

There's a chain of private language schools in Dalian that go by the name of Future and are part of the American-owned AES chain. But I'm not sure if this one in Benxi is theirs, or if it was started by some private entrepreneur who is skimming off the Future School name. If this Benxi school is part of AES, then yes it is legit. But if not, be careful. Contact the folks at http://www.aesincorp.com to make sure.
I've never been to Benxi, but I heard it was a typical northeast "Rust Belt" industrial city. Do your homework before going there, to make sure the city is a place that you are willing to live in. The best places in Liaoning Province are Dalian and Shenyang. Beyond that, you're more or less "roughing it", unless you are seeking the adventure of living in the more ordinary parts of China. |

Grace, I am currently teaching in Dalian, but I taught for Benxi Future English School, aka David Hao. I can tell you that as far as I know it is a legit school as he has many around China in different cities. If you are looking for a true China experience it is a fantastic place to start. The people in the city are fantastic, and David and Ellen are good to work for, he is honest and treats his teachers very fairly, he will follow the contract as long as you hold him to it.
YES Benxi is a steel city and be prepared to get a cough after a couple weeks and possibly the traditional cold that most of us got but it went away. I believe that I can spead for the teachers I knew there and they would all say it is a great place to get a start. If the city was a little, well maybe a lot cleaner I would probably still be there. I am not sure that Shenyang is that much better, as you trade the dirty air for very hot summers and very cold winters, oh yeah and the wind always blows. But I have a few friends who teach there and truly enjoy the city because of its location and the number of foriegner teachers there. Good Luck |

OK im late again as usual, but whomever wrote the last message was full of crap. Ellen is a wonderful lady, Hope thier daughter is cute as hell, but David Hao is one of the dirtiest buisnessmen in China. all the advise i can give you is RUN, RUN as fast as you can away from him. I worked for him for 3 months. in that time one person was sold, i quit, one of the girls was promised another job by David but he lied, met 5 other people that when they heard who i was working for gave me thier number immediately and said " I have worked there too, get out now. I will get you a Job here with me it will be ok" so whomever reads this, remember, Benxi Future English School is NOT a good place to be.

Gee, I am sorry that you two feel that way about Future English School. I have known quite a few people who have worked there and although David is somewhat of a typical chinese business man, maybe because he is Chinese, he treated us fairly and we did a good job for him. I belieeve that each person who works as an ESL teacher here has varied experiences, mine just happen to be good for the most part.

I suppose, the names of those nihilist posters give them away,m and if they don't impress you enough, look at how long they have been around here or how many posts they have produced...
SOme only post to create bad vibes. Up to the seeker of information to accept or not... |

I have met over 10 teachers who have worked with Future English Schools (AES) in the Dalian area. Not one of them had a positive thing to say about their treatment.
Do I search and pay attention to the poster known (I think) as "MyTurnNow" who worked for AES in the past. |

MyTUrnNow is in the Shanghai area. PM me and I can, perhaps, connect you to him. He runs a website of his own! Maybe you need to give him your email as he doesn't want all and sundry to flock to his website. |

I agree with roger on to try and take in all the facts, but in my experiance with one person in a particular Future English School in Benxi, I wouldnt do it again. Im really glad that veteranassuch had a good time. The people are nice and everyone that I met were great people, I just would not, under any circumstances, recomend that school. There are tons of other schools that you can go to that will treat you better, give you better accomidations, and help you experiance china. |

Thanks Krazykarl the more I refect back on the experience, it was good mostly because of the group of people that I worked with. Recommending it to someone might be a little more than I would do as just like you there are thousands of schools where you can have the same experience or better. |
