Hi,
just trying to get the real picture here - how much can one make per hour if it comes to part-time teaching? Here in Hangzhou, training schools seem to pay 100-130 RMB, but also some define hour as 45 min class hour, others as 1 full hour. Anyhow, I am trying to reach 200 RMB per hour - is that realistic?
regards,

it depends on how much money your potential students what to pay for your lessons.
the chinese ask for 100rmb to teach chinese for an hour and many of them don't even know the correct usage of verbs! |

Hey there Ralf
Im currently teaching in Jiaxing which is about 1 hour from ya. I have side teaching jobs and then pay me 100 RMB per hour but there all students from other schools and i do the lessons in there home.
I have never ventured into businesses or anything like that but from what i can understand is they pay more. Please correct me if im wrong about that. Maybe put a limit on the students like if over 5 students then another 50 RMB. |

I have worked in three different universities in China during the past four years. I have not accepted any of the many offers that we get for 'outside' part-time work, but the overtime rate within the colleges for each 45 minute lesson has been RMB100 in Nanchang, RMB100 in Wenzhou and RMB150 here in Wuhan. The offers for 'outside' work that I have received have ranged from RMB90 to 150 per 45 minute period. |

does how much you are paid for private tutorials depend on your qualifications and experience, and command of English assuming that you would be teaching English and not French or some other language? |

Dear Susie, not sure if you can get more if you teach another language, but I am trying to figure that out. Otherwise, looks like that any additional English teaching will not allow you to earn more than 150 RMB (and even for that you have to stay in Wuhan or maybe Shanghai). Anyhow, I try to get 200 RMB, my new Mission Impossible..... |

You may want to try organizing your own class in your flat or something for part-time work. I know of teachers who teach small groups of students at their own flat or another students flat and charge each student 50-100 yuan per hour. If you have connections you may be able to find some rich students who are willing to pay this much for private lessons. But the key is you must be an excellent teacher and the students really feel they are getting their money's worth.

Just saw the "joke of the month" ad here, so that guy in Beijing claims that you can make 200 RMB per hr if you teach a manager at your home. So now I am trying to catch some.... |
