Hey everyone,
I'm leaving for HCMC in five days to look for work. I'm getting a tad nervous about my visa situation. I have a 3 month multiple entry tourist visa, and I've been under the impression that a future employer can switch this to a business visa once I land a gig. Is this going to cause me any problems? I would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks, |

Not a problem. You can get a business visa (6 months) at a Travel agency, or in the underground for cheaper... |

From the Teaching in Vietnam FAQ (coming soon!):
What kind of visa do I need to work in Vietnam?
The vast majority of teachers working in Vietnam are on business visas. Strictly speaking, all foreigners working in Vietnam must have working visas. However, the hoops that you have to jump through in order to get a work visa are so convoluted that in practice only people working for large companies get one.
It's possible, but potentially risky, to work on a tourist visa. Most teachers arrive on a tourist visa and upgrade to a business visa once they're in the country.
What's the best way to apply for or renew a business visa?
You need to have a sponsor in order to get a business visa. This is usually your school if they offer a visa service. If not, any travel agent, e.g. FidiTourist or SaigonTourist, will perform the service for a fee.
Although it's possible to arrange a business visa before entering the country, this can only be done if you have arranged a sponsor or employer beforehand. It's easiest to apply for a tourist visa and enter the country on that. Schools will hire you on a tourist visa, but this is generally on the proviso that you upgrade it as soon as possible. |
