I would love some honest opinions of this place (Izmir University of Economics), but this still remains an untouched subject on this forum. Can someone pm me if they don't want to post here? Cheers. |

This topic as you say remains untouched ,your request seems fair enough, however, honest opinions and comments will not be forthcoming from any of the 40 plus foreign workers there ,myself included, perhaps a pm might open a door ,in which case I'd be interested to hear any comments you get . I know more about whats happenning in Sri Lanka at the moment than this place ,so thats my excuse,no doubt many of those who read Dave's at İEU will drop you a line ,but ,don't hold your breath . |

I posed a similar question back in November and received only one reply, from Otterman I believe. |

I would also be interested in any info on this place. It appears to be one of the largest employers of native speaker teachers and also offers good money.
Any other pros or cons? I'm considering applying for the next academic year. |

I know the teacher training dept and they are a right bunch of has beens. One is a old queen who is currently drying out and used to date his employess. Another is an old local gay hand who got sacked from the council and the other has ridden tefl so hard that he cannot go anywher else. |

I posted a message about this school about six months ago, when I was still working there. It's a great place to work. The salary is fair and the teacher support team is fantastic. Whoever said those instructors were 'washed up' and other things is out of his mind. I never attended such useful workshops, many of them teacher-led and some geared towards specific texts. I made many friends at IEU and I recommend the school for native speakers from either Britain or North America.

Ekmek me old fellow scribe ,I happen to know the gentlemen in question I feel you may have your wires badly crossed esp about the drying out one ,how can he be a queen if he dates his employees ? The other one who was sacked by the BC isn't that the same one or are you confusing it with Eng fart ?
The last one, isn't he the ex- katipci, who has now attained god like status ???? |

Nope... no PMs on this subject, but I do appreciate the very ambiguous replies up to this point. |

For what it's worth:
Re "an old queen" "currently drying out" & "a local gay hand" "sacked from the council", I can place the people you mean but only just. One is definitely homo, the other, equally definitely hetero. The hetero one used to have a drink problem but hasn't touched alcohol for many years.
Nobody was "sacked" by the council. The third one "has ridden TEFL so hard" I can only guess at.
If I'm right in thinking they are the people alluded to, they are all ex-English Fast, which used to be the best (when they were there), I respect them all. They are good at their jobs. If you don't like working with them, are you good at your job? |

English Fast was never the best when the threesome was there or not. When the homo was general dos or whatever he was called Nazif and his hideous wife were in general charge and a paedophile who met Nazif when he was in prison for fraud was in charge of the Kadikoy branch. The homo left with his boyfiend of half his age (who worked at another branch) and left Ist to work in the Izmir branch. EF closed branches and resorted to advertising the renting out of teachers to clients homes as they had so few actual classrooms left. The homo knew all this yet carried on working for them. Dont try and pretend that he left when it was good-it was never good-it may in the 80s have been better than the rest of the crap but that was only because it was one of the first places in Ist. |

Strange. That's not quite how I remember things. like FGT, I know(can make an educated guess) who you are referring to. Things aren't that simple or even true. Yes, I have, of course, heard the rumours. Rumours from what 10 years ago. Where did the rumours come from? A teacher apparently found a letter on the desk of the manager's office. 10 years ago!!! And still people talk about this. |

Was the ex-BC sacked from the BC? He's definitely not batting for the other team. I have proof. |

Nazif is someone completely different. Not part of this equation at all. Nazif is/was the owner of English Fast, never the DOS. Ekmek parasi - check your facts! |

In response to Otterman's question, Did you jump or were you pushed? I would only reply that there are things my husband and I needed to do back in the US; we missed the beautiful nature here and our families, and I never wanted the life of an expat --is that what you consider 'jumping'? Anyway, it's funny that you're interested now, when some time back you refused to meet me for tea in Alsancak to discuss this job possibility(Personally, I never refuse a cup of chai!)...I hope other readers will still consider IEU..If you're an open-minded, positive person, it can offer you a great work experience. |
