Dear TCMT:

A psychiatrist can teach people how to overcome such chronic anxiety disorders as excessive worrying, irrational fears and panic attacks without the use of tranquilizers.

If you're afraid of goig to a Taipei hospital at the moment, one of my friends is a counsellor and would be willing to talk to you on the phone.

I really think your depression and anxiety go hand in hand. I've read that some depressed individuals feel restless and agitated - Sort of like you have been lately.

Restlessness and agitation, which are really signs of increased activity and excitement might, in fact, be caused by the anxiety you've experienced living in Taiwan and with the government and the scary virus that's going around.

In peace,

SP

Fred,

Delusions of grandeur are also treatable. I recommend you check into a psych ward as soon as possible.

Denial of problems, much like the denial of the severity of SARS and the sham of a government here doing in its own people, are the first signs of a problem - especially when you've got rose-tinted goggles on. Continuing to pick fights on a public forum AFTER a heated situation had occured also indicates the fact that you have far too much time on your hands and might need guidence in doing what normal people do: move on.

So, given this, please check into a hospital. Too much "Sun" is not a good thing.

No peace,

Trinity

Mr. Shannon, I think this proves you're trolling.

Behave yourself.

such is available. should you be in perceived need of such while in taiwan a visit to the local health care professional will help. the doctor will set you up if the doctor perceives you to be in need.

i was glum for a long time following 911. i was in a funk like i had never been in before. couldn't shake it. went to the local doctor. told him the straight line. he wrote me out a ten day prescription for something good. turned the trick indeed.

I found that depression is also a result of enviornment. Obviously, if you cannot cope with a new culture, then you will fall into fits of frustration, which often lead to exasperation and sometimes depression.

This happened to me in Seoul. I soon discovered that I needed as many distractions as possible, and responding to comments on boards like this was not one of them.

Things that helped me are sports, working out a gym and having a friend or two to confide in. You'll often find that friends face the same psycholigical obstacles and that talking about it helps tremendously. Others have found ways to beat the system. Like learning the local language (even though I never did that to his extreme, it seemd to work for him.

Also think about a vacation in the Philippines or where ever! Even going back home for a couple weeks is worth it. Then you'll realize living in Asia is much more satisfying that you thought it was.
