Hellooo
I have just completed my first years teaching. Working in China for EF has been a great experience. But now we have a few problems. My girlfriend and I wanted to go and work in Sulewesi and had a job lined up, but we have been turned down because she is German and she couild not get a residents permit. Does this apply to the whole of Indo. She has lived in England for 12 years, is married to an English guy, and also has an English degree.
The other problem we have now is money. I have lots of Chinese Yuan in a Chinese bank account. I have an HSBC account back in England but I do not want my money converted back to pounds as it will be worthless. We do not intend to return to England. Are next plan is to teach and travel down through South East Asia and visit friends in Ozz and New Zealand. Is there an International bank that we can use in any country? I know about offshore accounts but you need 5000 to set one up in the first place. What do other teachers do that a traveling from country to country?
Any advice would be great.
Many thanks

I'm not sure if this is right, but I think you have another problem and that your gfriend is married.

Citibank has a lot of int'l branches as well.
I usually wire money back regularly to my home bank in Canada and then use an ATM to withdraw money when I travel.

Don't close your UK account. the money is a stable currency and the exchange rate will work for you and it's safe. Your money won't disapper.. Put it in your UK account and then you can transfer it to your new account when you open it in your new country.

Thanks for the replies.
I dont really want to send money back to the UK. Don't you loose out on transactions? Ive checked on a currency converter and my best bet seems to be Dollars. As I'm not going back to the UK to live, I want an International account where I'm not having to get my wages transfered or converted in to pounds then another transaction to draw the money out in currency of the Country I am in. Hmmm. There must be an international bank. Where is Citibank based?
Many thanks and cheers
