GERMANY
I was there 2.5 years and the beer was first-rate.
Erdinger Dunkel - which is a wheat beer - dark and strong. My fave.
Weizen - wheat beer.
Paulaner - herb sort of taste I think.
Kolsch - local beer in Koln - bit salty and came in small glasses - so a couple of swigs and it was gone. But was palatable.
Germans are big and like to drink. But they can usually handle it.
Please don't write in telling me of missing umlauts - I can't be bothered with pressing the ALT key and number pad. |

For goodness sake, how can can someone criticise a beer for having too much 'flavor'. Too many chemicals I entirely agree, but the flavour is what makes them worthwhile.
Aahhh, Pedigree, Youngs Special, Summer Lightning, Timothy Taylor's Landlord, De Koenig.. the list goes on. |

| SueH, try Tyskie and you'll know what I mean. The more flavor the better? It's like saying "if a pinch of salt makes a beef stake delicious, let's pour a whole pack on it - yummy!" |

Hey, there is good pivo all aover Europe, Asia, Latin America and even some decent brews in the US. It is all a matter of taste. I liked Golden Pheasant- IF IT WAS FRESH. And my favorite beer in Poland was either Lech or Tyskie. In Korea, OB did the trick. As for the Czechs- Budvar on tap. Even in Russia there is a decent beer--Baltika. One of the best things about the ESL business is that I got to sample beers and food from around the world. At this moment I am enjoying a Chimay.

Stella would make your beers cry.
My mouth is watering at just the word.
Stella.
Mmmm. |
Good Lord! You are joking I hope. Stella's OK but it is not very special. It wouldn't make it into my top twenty...or thirty. |

you mean Okocim with a blue or green label, Nauczyciel?
Well I haven`t been in Poland in almost two years. I guess I had Okocim with a red or green label.
Don`t know Harnas. I didn`t like Helvius from Gdansk.
I did have a good beer in Krakow. It comes from Southeast Poland. I can`t remember the name of it. Lejaysk? I forgot the spelling.
I like Budvar. There were three kinds: with red, blue, and black labels.
Radegast isn`t bad either. Staropramen is pretty good.
Belgium would be a good place to drink for the OP. Only 10 million people but more kinds of beer than anywhere.
Estonian students like to go to pubs. Russians too, especially in western Russia (when they have the rubles, that is).
There is good beer all over. In Australia (Victoria), Canada (Sleeman), Indonesia (Bintang), Ireland (Harp and Kilkenny), Holland (Grolsch), India (Golden Eagle), Italy (Moretti), Peru (Cristal), France (Kronenbourg), Scotland (Belhaven), and Kenya (Tusker Premium). |
You have found students who DON'T like to drink beer? Surely you jest. Muslims or Mormons, maybe; but ANYWHERE else , I think not!
Chinese students are unbelievably tame. They might have a couple of weak beers with a meal, but as soon as the meal is over, its home time and no more to drink. I went to an 'end of term party' at a chinese uni, expecting a party, and it was just a stage show kind of thing... |
