I think it depends on what you intend to use it for exactly. I have a Canon IDF 4600 and frankly I'm pretty disappointed. It is ok when I am studying on my own but it is way to slow to use the jump button in many situations like a class or in public, sometimes it is hard to figure out which kanji are part of the main definition(quickly) My friend has a romaji elec. dict that is so quick to use it is great when he is interacting with a Jap person and gets stuck, one second to punch it in and the main def comes straight up. The problem is all the learner (Eng to Jap that is) dictionairies, paper or electronic, I have seen are too limiting in terms of the number of entries once you are much past the beginners level but the ones with lots of entries and kanji look up are not meant for us Eng to Jap learners so are not convenient. I think so far it isn't a great dictionary for the intermediate Japanese learner.

Hey,

I would suggest checking Ebay for the dictionary. I found several that were starting at about 40$ US to 150$ US, so it may be worth checking out.

Take care

Have enjoyed all the latest reviews. I'm convinced that perhaps it does pay to hash this topic out every now and then with the advent of newer products.
Kitano, I almost bought the IDF-4600 but then not long afterwards, the
G-50 has come on the market which seems to be superior, larger Kana dictionary and other features.
I have not bought that one either, but does anyone own or have any experience with that product?
From the descripttion, it seems like it's a major improvement over the IDF-4600 and released afterwards within a year I think.
