| Hi. I am new to posting and this entire area of certification. I have a 4 year Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. I had to take a lot of Psychology and Sociology classes. My degree is from the US. My husband and I are trying to move to Egypt (where he is from). My plan was to teach kids English, however there is a hold up. They want certification teaching or otherwise, I guess. So, since I do not have any certification and my degree is not in Education and need to get some certification. A teaching certification at this point is too costly and time consuming. I have 2 years of teaching experience but no certificate. So, I find these classes for online certification. What do you guys think would be least economical but best for what I plan to do? I saw the 60 hour course that allows to teach English to children. Or there is the 360 hour course that gives you the TEOSOL certificate plus three specialization classes. Any good advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, how does it work taking an online class. How long doe it take to complete? Thanks. |

Maybe it would be better to ask what is acceptable in Egypt. These things are not uniform, and you do not wan t to find that you have wasted time and money on a cert that is not acceptable.
Many of the TESOL/TESL/TEFL courses now focus on adult learners.
If you want to teach children you might have to get teachers' credentials.
Post under EGYPT on the M.E. Forum and you might get something. |

Agreed. Post in your target country, find out what people say is needed there. E-mail some possible schools.
Many schools say they want something, but when you talk in person, they are more then glad that you just have experience. Teaching certification means many different things in different places.
Strongly suggest you personally negotiate with the schools over this matter. With your dergee, education, and experience, I personally can't see as it is something you would want to do in your situation.
I know little about Egypt. Are you sure you want to go there now?  That's what my family says about me being in China with SARS |
