Anyone have experience marrying an Indonesian here? The list of rules I've seen calls for a lot of documents. For example:
Certificate of the religious marriage,
Passport for foreign citizens, or KTP (Identity card) for Indonesian citizens,
Certified birth certificate, legalized and translated into Bahasa Indonesia,
Certified divorce decree (absolute) or death certificates regarding the termination of all previous marriages,
Proof that all taxes for the foreigner were paid,
Certificate of the structure of your family
Certificate of birth for all your legal children
Certificate of religion
Certificate of your marital status
Four 4 x 6 cm photos, both partners side by side,
Foreign citizens: 'Letter of No Impediment to Marriage' issued by your Consular Representative,
For Indonesian citizens: never married: a Surat Keterangan Belum Kawin from RT, Kepala Desa or Lurah (district chief); Men aged 18-21 and women aged 16-21:

Shocked I doubt if I could collect all these in 2 years! Are they really necessary?
Also, I found that Indonesians can marry in a foreign country, much simpler. But does it have to be in foreign spouse's home country?

Any suggestions, help would be appreciated:)

you don't need proof taxes were paid!

the cerificate for structure of the family would be the kartu keluarga. all indonesians have them or can get them .

The other documentations would be about right.

You need to get mainly a letter of no impediment of marriage from your embassy.

To help you get everything post your question on the indonesian expat forum site under expat indonesian marriages. The advice is second to none.

you could just get married in Singapore. Apparently a lot less red tape and the marriage is recognised in Indonesia.

i got married to an Indonesian in Indonesia:

i needed:

The letter of no impediment and my passport - that's it. (letter of no impediment from consular office, around rp500,000) i can't remember what documents i had to show at the consular office, but remember it was an easy process.

My husband needed his birth certificate, KTP and I think kartu keluarga (family card) but I am not sure about that.

i DIDN'T need to get all those other documents you mentioned translated into Indonesian.....seems like someone trying to make money out of you!

the marriage does get put through the kantor agama (religous office) so you may need proof of your religion - it is Indonesian law for both you and your spouse to have the same religion.......so if, for example, your partner is muslim, and you are not, you will need to convert (on paper at least). it only takes a few minutes (involves repetition of a short oath of faith in Arabic) and then your signature on a document. it can take place the same day as the wedding. i'm, not sure what the process is for other religions.

do make sure that you get a buku nikah - this is your marriage book. some people take the money and run away! your partner should definitely know how to go about this.....

If in doubt you could try asking your embassy. They should know what you need.
