I am in the process of preparing my resume to apply for the big conversation schools in Japan.

Currently, I am volunteering in an ESL classroom here in Canada and I would like to add that to my resume. Is volunteer experience looked highly upon in Japan?

Also, I met a girl from Korea through Dave's ESL chat and we talk online all the time. She will ask me questions about the english language regarding what certain words mean and how to write a proper sentence. Is this something I can add to my resume, or is that not considered a credible form of teaching?

I have no formal teaching experience, but thought if I can add these experiences to my resume, it might look favourably on me.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you're looking to pad your resume, I don't know if it will help you either way. Basically, make your resume simple to read, stress your education and that you have/are eligible for a working visa. If you don't have any experience in Japan or actually teaching overseas, those are things they will look for. The fact you say you helped some people with their English in your home country won't do much for you. Face it, you don't have any real experience...so beit. You can really help your odds of getting a job by taking a TEFL course and wearing a suit to the interview.

The stuff about meeting a girl from Korea and chatting with her and helping her with her English is interview chit chat etc, but in the end, foreign people doing the interviews see right through that stuff.
