Is it true that a complaints hotline was set up some time last year for Japanese people to complain about their (foreign) neighbors? I thought I saw an article in the Daily Yomiuri or Japan Times about a website...any news?

there was a website set up by the local governments where japanese could report suspicious foreigners who may be illegal overstayers or belong to criminal gangs, even if all they were doing was walking down the street or waiting for a bus. You could be picked up and questioned if people thought you were a potential Iraqi terrorist or staying here illegally. It asks for information such as name, address, nationality, work address, home address, appearance etc. Ouch.

heres the 'snitch' site (Japanese only)

It would be amusing to snitch on a Japanese neighbor as being a suspected terrorist and see what the Japanese government does about it.
