Dear Readers,
My two-and-a-half-years as an EFL instructor have now come to an end in Paris, and now I am returning to the United States, specifically Chicago, where I would like to start over as a translator (French to English), the unfortunate part is that I am rather ignorant of opportunities in this field in the United States, and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice.
Regarding my personal profile, I am twenty-nine-years-old, a citizen of both the USA and Ireland (that's why I was able to work legally in Paris, and, no it's not all that it's cracked up to be - poverty grows rather tiresome especially with age!), I have a BA in English Literature from the University of Nevada and an M.Ed in Postsecondary TESOL from the same institute, although I do not possess a degree in languages, I am fluent in French, and I have devoted much time towards the translations of my students' texts, texts concerning IT (information technology), medical studies, property law contracts, etc, so I have been exposed to a wide variety of written French, and feel that I can be of use to an agency which needs my services. I just got my MA from a school that also offers MAs in Translation & Interpretation. Having taken the TESOL route, I'm not really qualified to comment on the T&I program, but if you check out the website (www.miis.edu), you will likely/hopefully see some sort of career options listed. I'm not suggesting that you go back for another MA, just that you look for the "what the heck do people DO in this field?!?!?" links. Good luck.

The International Herald Tribune's classified ad section always has jobs postings for French-English/English-French translators. Offhand, I can't remember which day of the week they have employment ads-sorry.
