HI,
I taught in Bratislava for a school year-2003-2004(9 months) Overall I was disappointed. The pay was very low, I had to supplement my income with my credit card and now I am 2500 in debt. And no I didnt travel a lot! The locals were not easy to get to know-some other teachers I knew had been there for years and had maybe 1 or 2 Slovak friends. People seemed hostile in the streets, especially after drinking. On several occasions we had locals mocking our English after they heard us talking. I felt very unwelcome. I left skid marks when I left there. I have heard that the atmosphere in the smaller towns is much nicer to live and work in but I cant vouch for that. I have taught in several other countries, this was not a good expereince. The only thing I got out of it was thicker skin. I have heard from others that Poland is a great place to work. I heard Czech-Republic isnt due to the red tape and poor wages. And I heard Hungary was okay, the people can be rude but overall its not bad.
Good Luck! |
