There are jobs in North Korea just not that many. Last one I saw was through the British Council,,,

Do you want to live in a big city or a mega-city..Also watch carefully the location of the school . Sometimes you be away out of town,,,

My own favorite part of China is the general area within a 3-hour radius of Shanghai.Except the ocean .Zhejiang province now. The people are friendly and I might add better-looking than in other areas..OK they are also good looking in Guangzhou but I don't like the humidity..I found January too hot so I don't want to be there in July..Having said this I have never been west as in Sichuan or sw as in Kunming or ne as in Harbin.

Did you get a Mongolia offer?

Befuddled or something? You want to go to North Korea??? Why post on the CHINA forum then? What's wrong with "Mongolia"? Do you know where that is? Seen from a distance, it might appear to be pretty close to North Korea, if you will...

So, what do you want? A Korean-speaking town with a McDonald's and a Disneyland Theme Park?

Well, I've been in Shanghai for a few months and it's OK. Noisy, but if you look around you can get an apartment in a quiet place. Lots of culture and shopping and good cheap eats. Crappy weather--freezing now, horribly hot and humid in the summer--but the apartments have A/C units and heat. WARNING: The classrooms in my university aren't heated (also no A/C). I think this is a general condition throughout the city's universities, so be prepared to teach in coat & gloves. Lots of big Western hotels so you can get newspapers & magazines if you want to pay the price. And the architecture is wild--lovely old buildings plus lots of new skyscrapers with weird decorative topknots. And there are lots of jobs, apparently, if you look around.

No I asked about North Korea as I was unsure if Americans actually went there.

My issue is I have not decided where to work. I would like to be near the big city so as I can travel there when I get a break but prefer a suberb type area.

I like to SCUBA dive. Any locations where diving is close by?

Any one know of a good school willing to offer a 6 month contract?

Just go there mate, see what place you like best and stay there.
Easy as that, have a holiday first, see if you like China in the first place.

Everyone likes something else it'd be pretty hard to say what's best.
Why not go to Thailand or other places in S-E Asia, could go scuba-diving there easily enough.

g'luck

Hainan is pretty nice. The salary is pretty low there but living expenses are too. I got my PADI cert. when I was staying there (Sanya).

Hangzhou is not too bad . . . I've been here 3 1/2 years now, and I like it okay. I could have moved to Shanghai, but decided against it -- damn big, and I'm afraid I'd spend all my money if I was there.

If I could start over, I'd seriously consider Kunming. I've been there twice, and I like the city and the location.

But that's just me. I have no idea what you would like, jeff.

Jeff,
I'll be leaving Florida for Suzhou in Feb. I can't give you much advice on where to go, but beware the weather. If you're from Florida you know that we don't really know what winter is, and I here some parts of China are dam cold.
