The food in Turkish schools is generally pretty decent, and certainly much healthier than the junk you get in British and North American school cafeterias.

The Turkish meals are more balanced and usually contain foods from the essential food groups, with some soup, salad, vegetables, a meat dish (but not every day), and fruit for dessert.

Many of the cooked meals are made with olive oil, which is heart healthy.

It is ironic, than when Turks become rich, they tend to go for a junk food diet. The Turks who don't have money stick to a diet which is essentially healthy, containing ample portions of rice, salad, fruits, and smaller quantities of meat.

This situation is the opposite to the one in the industrialized world, where the educated tend to eat more healthily than the plebians.

It's true. If my spoilt brat hazirlik students weren't in class they could usually be found in Burger King.

It's nice (ironic?) to think that these people are risking their health by displaying their wealth in this way.

Hay welcome back ghost I was worried, even thought that you had left us for good. Nice to see you back with your keen & sharp insights into Turkey and all things Turkish. Please don't leave us in the dark again. P.S your right about the food, but don't you just hate chicken Doner with cold on Fridays. It's a tradition. Rolling Eyes

I love a nice couple of slices of cold, and not just on Fridays.

I was being sarcastic when I started this thread.

Just got fed up reading about cafeteria food and what else on the thread about ET.

Didn't really expect to get such replies..

Of course we all deviate from time to time...but see how easy it is to start a new thread... Very Happy Surprised

A well-fed teacher is (part way to being) a happy teacher. This is a genuine issue, and I'm not surprised some posts have been made. At least you can choose not to read them now, teacherdude.Anyway, enjoy your Burger King. While you're at it, check out www.killercoke.org

Afferin sana. Have you seen the docu-film 'Supersize me'? If you haven't, I recommend it. You'll never eat fast food again.
