This is a forum for English teachers, legal or otherwise. There maybe people reading these posts who can help.

Who is we? This is a forum for all. You don't know every body that reads these posts. You are not in a position to make that statement.
I do suspect this person is bogus ( the 'I want to sell big cheeses' did it for me), but there is no 'we'. There are frequent posters here, but there are many more only reading posts that may have info, if indeed this person is real. |

I'm sorry this is crap. This sounds like English humour to me, something Monty Pythonish.

I generally find it works the other way round. Lots of people can rwrite English well but speak it quite badly. The other way round would seem quite odd to me. |

Hmmmm....frequent users. Perhaps that could be what the pronoun "we" is replacing. There is a "we." And "we" cannot help someone such as the supposed user Ephemeral Real-- real or fictitious. The only help that can be offered is the suggestion that this person find a new job. I agree with what you say about writing vs. speaking. Typically an esl learner's writing in English is better than their speaking, especially if their first language uses an alphabetic spelling system.

Not quite. This is a semi-public forum. You need to register for it. Therefore the "we" refers to registered users. The "we cannot help you" statement is also a statement of fact. Users here cannot advise a person working illegally on how to proceed through official channels. Working illegally necessarily means that, when trouble arises, you have to accept it and move on. Going to authorities will only alert them to your illegal status. Therefore, I repeat: "we (registered users and legal English teachers in Taiwan) cannot help you. The best you can do is find work for which you are legally entitled to an ARC in this country. |

My take on the "we" claim is that is was reasonable. Ephemeral has been posting questions here for a couple of weeks and only a few people have offered suggestions. I think it fair to say that the "we" applies to the people who have been attempting to help by answering questions posed.
I feel that the reason that no one can help is evidenced by the fact that Ephemeral seems to make posts that are oblivious to previous answers given. How can you help someone who doesn't even pay attention to answers given? |
