I don't really see the point in living in a place if you don't like it. Life is short and there are plenty of decent places to live in the world!

Hey, I love Jakarta, as I said before. It is, however, a big mental city that can be hard to deal with. A lot of bules don't deal with it of course - they just travel from door to door in the back of a Kijang, go to the mall, McD's, etc, etc. Maybe they enjoy that. I wouldn't.

Ah sorry, I wasn't really referring to you as such, but those who live in a place but don't enjoy it. You obviously like it, so it's good for you to live there. What I don't get is the people who live somewhere for ages out of choice, but complain about it all the time....

Yeah, the people that seem to grumble the most are those who have grown bitter through living here for too long. Be that one week or ten years. Sure, there are certain things you can never change about Jakarta - horrible traffic, "Hello Mister", pavements that are blurdy difficult to walk along due to their having food stalls with bits of rope tied to trees - ready to trip the unwary (or pished), big holes for you to fall into. These things will never change so it's best to accept them and just get on with the big crazy mind freak that is life in Jakarta.

You may be able to get work in the Philippines, but only if you are employed privately or at a local company(international schools and companies require suitable degrees&teaching quals). The local wages will be very low, around 100-150 pesos per hour (2-3 dollars)(If you are lucky!).It is difficult to get work there as the majority of Filipinos speak English and will work for less than we do.The bulk of students are Korean and they're not looking for native speakers, they just want the cheapest tuition possible.
Phils is a great place and the people are fantastic but maybe you should just go there on holiday...
