|

I will soon be heading off to Europe and am under the age of 26. The last time I was an international traveler, I was a student and my ISIC, international student id card, was extremely helpful to have. If anything it was great to have some form of accepted id that I could keep on my person without worrying about something as valuable as my passport. There is an IYIC, international youth (there are also teacher ones available) id card. I was wondering if anyone who is currently in Europe holds one of these cards and finds it useful as a means of id and possibly discount in certain situations.
Thank you very much for any input. I can't wait to fly to Spain! |

Mine's expired, and I'm not sure of current conditions, but even after age 26 or whatever, ISIC cards apply (or applied) to teachers too. I found the card very useful for i.d. and discounts. I got discounts on stuff from theatre tickets and museum admissions, to travel and travel insurance.
Actually, if the rules are the same now, it's a great point to bring up with newbies; everyone should know. |

This reply is probably too late to help you, debora, but maybe it will help others.
I recently came to Europe, and I have an International Youth Card. It's not terribly expensive to get one, so I don't regard it as a waste of money, however, I also haven't found it particularly useful. I haven't been to the opera or live theatre, so I don't know if it would entitle me to a discount there, but intercity trains offer a discount for under 26 year olds. On these though, I found the card useless, as they didn't regard it as sufficient ID, and wanted to see my passport anyway, which, of course, contains my birthdate. Other places accepted my Australian or International driver's licences as "proof of youth" in preference to the International Youth Card. |
