Just wondering what the cost of living is in these areas. I'm looking to find a 1ldk or 2ldk for less than 100000 yen a month. I don't want roaches either. Expensive or not so? Right now, I am paying 58000 includ. utilities but it's a nova deal. What is the atmosphere like in this area. I know there's a US base near, but does anyone know anything else?
Thanks!

I live just over the Yokohama/Yokosuka border. Your budget is high... My last 2LDK was 64,000/mo. Zushi may be on the high side, as there's a construction boom going on there and land prices are up. Everywhere else is cheaper.
I love the area. Lots of trees, big parks (large swathes of govt. protected forest), close to beaches, fishing, hiking... but still close enough to commute to Tokyo. People are pretty friendly in my town. (Oppama.)
Costco just moved into Kanazawa-Hakkei, and there are other cheapish, large grocery stores in the area.
The Keikyu line is fast, but it's your only option unless you're farther out/on the other side of the peninsula. It's been reliable, except during the last typhoon. Lots of people got stuck in Kamiooka or Yokohama that night. Hopefully there won't be too many landslides in the future!
Downsides.... hmm. The garbage schedule. There's a lot more separating to do, compared to Yokohama. Everything goes out on different days, too. You'll get an English guide, but it's still a pain.
We looked into moving to Hayama, but you'd need a car. Something about the evening train schedule... check it out. Beautiful area, though.
That's all I can think of... |

Nawlinsgurl,
Here's a website to check for apartments all over the country: http://www.chintai-homes.jp/ . It's all in Japanese, but even if you can only read place names, you can probably still get some use out of it.
Also, check out public housing. There's bound to be some in that area. You'll find info at http://www.ur-net.go.jp/ .
