hello~ i want to work in Mexico. I have no TEFL or CETLA. I have BA in psychology. I love to teach and care about my students. I am thinking about showing up and lookng for work. Any advice? Any leads? I am well informed of the ESL realm and realize pay is low for those who don't have certification. I understand the dangers and risks involved as well. I thank you for you time. I simply love Mexico.

Have you taught elesewhere? Think about the questions an interviewer will ask you or experience...teaching style, familiarity with current programs, etc.

What experience do you have? If you have a BA but no TEFL certificate, any teaching experience will count for a lot.

If you are also lacking formal teaching experience, then do some volunteer teaching where you are now.

Apart from filling out your resume a bit it is a good learning experience for you and a good learning experience for local people in need.

I volunteer for intercambio de communidades and have worked with a woman from Peru and Mexico for 9 months. I continue to improve as a teacher...I'm patient which is good but not strict which may or maynot serve them.
Thanks for the input!

Some schools are just happy to have a Canadian or American native speaker to add to the esthetics of their school. My last job was in Zihuatanejo and I just called them on the phone and asked, "you need English teachers?" And they rolled out the red carpet. Nice little job, 7000 pesos a month.
I think it depends on the area. I don't have a certificate, but I'm not sure if I'd go knocking on any doors without a cert in Distrito Federal.
