Hi,
Hungary is a very good choice! I worked in Budapest for about three months, doing privates during the evening and working in a warehouse (!) during the day. I didn't try to find a job in a language school, so I'm afraid I can't help much in regard to those. However, I was living near some major university campuses (a minute's walk from Klvin tr), and it was surprisingly easy to find privates. I charged HUF2500/hour (that's about EUR10/USD13), and I could've lived off privates only.
Budapest doesn't really have independent outskirts/suburbs. You do find residential areas outside of the city (which are not particularly nice... you'll catch a glimpse of those if you come from the airport and catch the metro at Kbnya-Kispest), but from what I have seen, all the activity takes place in the city itself. Although living in the city center might be more expensive than living in the outskirts of Budapest, I found it a very enjoyable place to live in. Once you meet a few locals, I think you'll be very pleased not to live too far away from all the action of Astoria, Klauzl and Klvin tr, Erzsbet and Trez krt, etc. !
You could also take a look at places like Szged, Pcs, Keskemet, Debrecen and Gyr, the larger Hungarian cities after Budapest. I don't exactly know what the employment opportunities are like there, but I would imagine that they are the places where you are most likely to find work. The cost of life there will also be significantly lower than in Budapest. I wouldn't try in smaller cities in towns, especially if you don't speak any magyar (but speaking English only the cities I mentioned won't be a problem, an incredible amount of Hungarians speak English!).
Hope this helps. If you have more questions, feel free to ask!
