31, I recommend drinking about 15 to 20 cans of Efes per night for the next few months, and each morning get up and try to analyse just how bad you feel. Then, repeat the experiment with Troy, Venus or Tekel, and compare your results. Maybe you could get the beer companies to sponsor your endeavour. |

Very droll Fausti. I have got stacks of hours, the girlf and got to keep my nose clean now so I am having to tone it down a bit.
Tekel beer terrible just like all the tekel drinks. It is well gassy and leaves a horrible taste in the mouth. I have tasted homebrews that a better than that stuff. But you can`t beat the price. I was coming down one of the side streets onto istiklal after a bit of a night out and you know what it is like when you decide to get more beers in without realising that of course your too bladdered to be able to drink them. There was this weird kind of half bookies half offy, really rough and old menish. That is where I got the tekel beers and when I tried to drink one next day I was well dissapointed.
Troy is not too bad but it tastes a bit like Tuborg again in Europe they would never get away with passing that stuff off as Tuborg. It is a bit of a con for the tourist coz the bottle is attractive what with the film and such.
Venus you put that in too be offensive. That cheapo stuff they sell in crappy offies and in Migros. When I first got here I was skint and even though I got an advance we had nothing in the flat and we was sleeping on the floor. I bought some Venus coz it was cheap in Migros and you got a free glass. The beer is crap and the glasses break really easy.
Do you really think that the alcohol content in Efes varies. Like in one bach they make it is 4.8% and in another it is 5.4% Is it possible? Or is it all subcnscious? |

I think the brewing techniques with mass produced beers make it impossible to have such variation. You'd expect to have consistency.
You really don't like the Tekel beer? I quite enjoy it from time to time, as it's the only Turkish beer to stick to the original 'German' concept of beer that only has 4 ingredients. |

One man`s meat...(no pun intended)
Consistency well there`s not much of that here. Like I said all Tekel drinks are grim as far as I am concerned but of course I yield to your greater experience here. That Tekel voddie it is dirt cheap but Christ is it rough. They told me at work to mix it with cherry juice. BTW that cherry juice goes down a treat the morning after. If it is kept in the fridge it is just sour enough for the bite you need and nice and cool to numb everything. I am really impressed with it and wonder why we haven`t got in the UK. Mixing the voddie with cherry juice makes it drinkable but that stuff seems like it is made in a factory. I bet they can`t export any of it.
I heard this great anecdote at work and thought you`d like to hear it. A teacher who was working in Kadikoy in the 90s, left and has just came back was working in Kadikoy at a school when this Irish bloke in his late 40s turns up after having worked in Thailand. He gets a job and turns out he is a real drinker. One days he finishes his Sunday class at 1 and goes down the coast road in Kadikoy between the boat terminal and the train station, where all the bars are. He drinks in one of those bars where you stand up and they have those MC Donalds type tables. He drinks all day and rolls out late in the evening. He drops like a sack of spuds on the street outside and wakes up next day in hospital. Turns out he has had an alcohol induced stroke. His brother bails him out he end up back in UK. This teacher calls him in the UK a few weeks later and he is off the drink and looking for a job in Middle East. This teacher calls him a few weeks after that and he is pissed on the phone. They must have been serving that Venus beer. |

Yeah, that vodka visne combination is a real winner. The last time I went back to England a friend of mine pleaded with me to bring as much of it with me as I could carry. |

Izmir's one remaining Tekel bar died a year or so ago. Tekel used to be good - almost like real ale. I haven't had any recently but I'd like to try it again. |
