Hi,

I am a 31 year old British citizen. (So EU passport holder).

I have a TEFL Certificate (from an English university) but no BA.

I have over two years full time teaching experience (nearer 3 by the summer recruiting season). I have lived and taught in China and Thailand (where I am currently).

I am a serious teacher - not a fly by night 'make some money and travel' teacher.

I have looked on the web extensively for qualification / visa requirements but at times I go cross eyed with all the different information.

I am looking to relocate back to Europe this year (or Northern Africa) and wonder if anyone has any advice.

Which countries are totally out of my range (need a BA for a work permit) and which countries are in my range (need TEFL qualified, conscientious teachers and do not demand a BA).

Any help you guys can give me would be great.

Thanks a lot!

Laura

You wouldnt have any problem in Spain - several mates got jobs here iwth TEFL and no BA: I think personally that having one of the two is all schools are looking for, if you have experience.
As for it being a visa requirement, youll be in Europe, and every country is obliged to let you work, whatever your qualifications: public sector education would of course require it though, but presumably youll be working for private langauge schools anyway.

Thanks for your reply.

I have actually been offered 2 jobs in Poland - with EF.

I am surprised they are recruiting so early but one of them is very keen so I think I might be sorted.

Spain is a good option if I stay in Europe for a few years before going somewhere else so I appreciate your help.

Thanks again
Laura

Hi,

I basically have the same CV as you, except I've been working in EFL for a couple more years. I now work for a UK company in Romania providing language training for international companies. I don't need a work permit because I'm employed and paid in the UK.

The MD of the company has seen many teachers come and go and has come to the conclusion that experience of teaching (with a CELTA or equiv.), experience of living in another country and personal experience of learning a second language make a better teacher. As a result he doesn't insist on a BA and it's not required for any paperwork.

It's another option you could look at if you don't have much luck at the language schools.

All the best to you,
Mike

hungary is also quite possible, even in state run schools, though without a BA you may have to go to a more remote place.
