I was in Bangkok (MOD EDIT) recently for the first time and saw a Berlitz on Sukamavit(sp?) , well the main road near Nana
What's the scoop there? Do they hire?
Can a Korean English Teacher-veteren/refugee find work
with just his BA?
And of course what are the conditions like?
Thailand rocks! |

Berlitz is kind of the bottomless hole of English teaching. They'll offer crap salaries and part time work -- but it's certainly possible that they'd hire you -- maybe even to teach Korean to Thais.
Probably no work permit or visa for you. But who knows -- if you can demonstrate that you're an adequate teacher who's got more time for Berlitz than for himself I'm sure they'll eventually open a door or two for you.
You also might want to poke your nose into a few other low-end language schools (which would be most of them -- anything in a mall or with a streetfront shop). |

BERLITZ and BRITISH COUNCIL are alike in both are moneyp-grabbing, gouging institutions that favour and indeed target the upper-class language learners.
I went into BERLITZ on Sukhumvit in around 2003 and was told I'd have to work 6 days a week - Sunday off if I remember correctly.
Pay was under B.30,000 per month if I remember right and I said I'll think about it and flew back to my job in Japan where I was making over B200,000 per month. |

Yeah but the BC generally pay nearer 70K for full time work....and no taxes to be paid!
I forgot about the article, but now I've remembered I'll try to find it! |
