Isn't that ironic that you should use the word "real" in your posts? The moment I read your immaculate English essay on the evils of grammar, I knew that your fingers could never have produced it.
What makes you think anyone cares about your identity? In fact, we already know who YOU are. You are someone who thought he could be someone else on the net. This has been done by many others before, but your limited imagination convinced you that you could pass yourself as an Anglophone among PEOPLE WHO TEACH ENGLISH FOR A LIVING! Had you done this in a forum for primary school students, you might have gotten away with it. I know grammar is quantum physics for you, but notice I used might which implies that toddlers are extremely intelligent and would've found you out. |

BTW Now read this:.
Should We Teach Grammar In School?
Unfortunately, until recently, the only definition of grammar that was accepted was the dictionary definition presented above. It was not until the last 50 years that this definition and its teachings were questioned. Grammarians and anti-grammarians alike have been looking for an answer to the question: "Should we teach grammar in schools?" The answer to this question seems to be yes, but the system needs to change first.
Studies show that there is no benefit gained from the teaching of grammar. "After two years, no differences were detected in writing performance or language competence; after three years small differences appeared, but these were offset by the less positive attitudes they showed towards their English studies".
"So why is veryone going on about how grammar is good".

| British, i think the article refers to teaching native speakers the grammar of their own language. Please correct me if i'm wrong. |

Well, then, you've got a convenient setup, as most students of English in China aren't real students. |

To be honest, he kinda has a point guys..... Why ARE we so interested?? Do we feel somewhat threatened?? That this person cheapens the name of our beloved "profession"?? Why do we keep giving "him" exactly what he wants??????
I think the best way to get rid of a troll is to ignore them.... So since he keeps getting peoples backs up, why not just leave him to his ranting, and just stop paying attention?? (Unless you happen to have fun with it, in which case, sorry - this doesn't apply to you!!!) |

I think we're interested in the sense that we want to prevent a charlatan from ruining this forum. British thought he could outwit us, which is an amusing thought, considering that a potted plant could outwit him.
British first claimed he was a teacher from Xingtai University in China, he said it was awful, he then changed and said his Uni was looking for new teachers. His general contribution has been to troll, be hypocritical, get confused and write in such an excruciatingly poor manner that it ensures there will be a need for English teachers in China for the next 10,000 years. So my career is safe, and I wish to personally thank British for my job security.
We don't feel threatened. We've brought him down and kept him down. Remember Sekhmet when he first appeared (you agreed with me that he was not real) - that some people actually believed he was real!? (I still find this thought staggering).
Because we've dragged him further into conversation, we've uncovered him, and the number of people who believe he is real has dwindled to almost ZERO. Is there anybody who believes he is now real? Speak up.
But I agree he's getting a bit boring now. I liked to 'toy' with him and use him as workout for my vitriol, but he's outlived his purpose and most of us will probably ignore him.
Sometimes I might reply if I'm in the mood and want to wind him up, but he'll never know when or where, so I can drag him along with anticipation.
British - you're probably reading this and furiously pressing the buttons of your English-Chinese dictionary to try to understand the words of more than one syllable - if you need help just ask. I'm always happy to help Chinese students. That is my job. |

Check out the "TEFL Career Milestones" thread. British has come out. He wishes he could kick us out of his country.

| Ok Shapesphere, good point!!! It was kinda fun watching you guys use him as a virtual punchbag. I was more concerned by the people who actually took him seriously - as you said, I never believed in him in the first place! But some people seem to get quite riled up by his childish caperings. He just reminds me of a bully who suddenly realises he's no longer the biggest kid on the playground, but still tries (and fails) to make people look stupid... |
