I am going to be attending the TEFL International school in Ban Phe starting next month. Can anyone tell me about their experience in Ban Phe. I know it is a very small town that serves as a jumping off point to Ko Samet. What is there in Ban Phe? Good places to eat? How are the beaches nearby? Pubs? Laughing
And if anyone has taken the course there. I hear that it is very challenging and requires a lot of hard work. But I dont know any of the people who have told me this. What do you think? How are the rooms that the school provides? Etc etc

Thanks

The course is fine. Not as hard as you ma have heard, yet still intensive. Plan to work, but it's not terribl hard if ou pay attention.
Ban Phe has plenty of fine food (it IS thailand)and there are pubs a' plenty, and a little red light district. Shocked

The beaches aren't so hot, but samet (as u said) is a boat ride away. Rooms are a little small, yet clean and comfy enough.

You'll do fine. It flies by, as you study and teach through the weeks.

Hi

my boyfriend and I (also from Seattle) have been here 3 weeks now. He's doing the course and has enjoyed it very much. I decided not to do the course and just try and find work with only a bachelors (he doesn't have a BA)

Ban Phe is nice and you'll get to know the restaurants and hopefully the people too. There is an english used book store in town, along with two 7-11's, post office, pharmacy. You'll be busy with school and won't really have time to get bored, although I'm starting to.
There are also places nearby for weekend trips. Wat Khao Sukim is really cool, it's near Chantaburi.
You'll meet a lot of (drunk) ex-pats here who claim to be the expert on everything. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you have to take everything with a grain of salt, and just find out for yourself.
good luck.

ps- there are pubs here, but all you'll get is Heiniken or Thai lager. If you're still in Seattle, take advantage of the micro-brews while you still can!

Considering what you pay for the accomodation, the rooms are not what you might expect. Small, unless you get one at the end of a corridor. No hot water, which is fine unless you were in thailand in the last 6 weeks ( a bit cold to say the least ) and the drainage wasnt up to much and mossies!!

Is that still the case?

Now having said that, the course content was really good and I learned a lot. What you will learn is that you will never spend so much time again making up your props.

Ban Phe is well, dull but then you arent there for the night life.

Is the World Cafe still open these days sloe?
