Does anyone know whether joining a Taiko club or taking lessons to learn Taiko drums in Japan is as common as piano lessons in the West?
I am hoping to move to Hokkaido in July and was wondering if any of these opportunities are widely available outside Sapporo ???

I don't know how widely available they are, but I used to play in my Towns Taiko group. We entered lots of taiko competition like events and there where always tonnes of other groups, so it's out there for sure. That was in Yamanashi-ken though. |

When I lived in Hokkaido I had an American friend who was a member of a Taiko group in Tanno, near Kitami, in eastern Hokkaido. If he could do it there, you can probably find similar opportunities elsewhere. |
