@ Inner_Mongolian

The Inner Mongolians in your pictures definitely look a bit different from Northern Han Chinese. They're beautiful pictures, but to me the women do not look typical Mongolian from (Outer) Mongolia. Especially the third woman can be taken for Han Chinese if she were not wearing that traditional costume. Well...that is just my opinion. There are also many kinds of Mongolians, from different tribes. As I understand, in (Outer) Mongolia, the majority are Khalkha Mongolians, but in Inner Mongolia that is not the case? (Even the language is a little bit different, not too different but nonetheless they are considered distinct dialects - there are 3 major Mongolians dialects in Inner Mongolia, am I correct?).

@ Granada Girl

Good luck on your Peace Corps assignment! Do you know where you'll be stationed in Mongolia yet??
-40F all winter, yes I believe so Wink
Cost of living, let's see, (Lyov can better answer this since he is still in Mongolia, right Lyov?)...in Ulaanbaatar during 2003:

A cheap meal at a Mongolian restaurant-stall: $1-$3 (USD) (one main dish plus simple drink)
At a decent restaurant with Western food: $3 or $4 upwards including salad/soup/drinks
Taxis: $1 is more than enough for most rides within the city center
Crowded "shuttle" buses (more like mini-vans): $0.2 a ride
Milk tea (suutei tsai): $0.1 (the cheapest drink to order; excellent drink after you get used to it Wink
A bottle of juice at a kiosk: usually $0.3 to $0.5

At a nice supermarket/market in the city center... I'm actually starting to forget the prices but they can range from reasonable to outrageous even to an American, especially a budget one like me...depends a lot on your salary I suppose.

I was in Inner Mongolia, China two weeks ago.

It seems like 1 out of 2 families are Han. Many young ethnic Mongolians do not speak their language, only Mandarin Sad

The Manchus had a majestic past, but now they are practically gone...wiped out by Han assimilation. What will happen to the inner Mongolians in 50 years? They are such nice people, so sharing and friendly. I didn't enjoy being in the big cities of Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing, but out on the grasslands was a real treat. Really good people with a great temperment, this temperment can only come from their racial background. I hope they can keep their culture in China.

Mongolians look almost identical to Koreans.

Taller, high cheekbones (on the women), square face (on the men), etc.

Mongolians and Koreans are SO MUCH MORE attractive than Han Chinese. Thicker hair as well as opposed to that thin hair most Han have.
