You guys know you want to talk about it. I know I'd like to know more -- Who are these losers that couldn't cut it in the West and moved to Tokyo. I hear about them from time to time, but never in much detail. What qualifies one as a migrating loser? What's so special about Japan that the losers find so attractive? What seperates them from you? If you're a loser, DEFEND YOURSELF! |

Loser... when I compare myself to the man within.
Winner...when I compare myself to the people without.
Open to interpretation...

I am a loser because I stay here for the money. I feel teaching here has afforded my family a level of comfort I wasn't able to attain in my home country.
I am a loser because I work for a school that is not a school at all. Students do as they please and when they wish to complain about me the school supports them.
I am a loser because I feel that I can endure the daily barrage of hate.
I am a loser because even I have severly compromised my morals and values I continue to do so because I can take trips abroad, be home by 5 o'clock, have weekends off, get to school in 2 minutes, go home any time I have a free period, get 2 bonuses a year and...
and in defence of myself, I plead no contest.

That's right. The equivalant of 4 months salary, used to be 5 months until this last winter and there is talk of reducing the summer bonus.
Do you think you could give a pound of flesh for that? |

No, no. I get innumerable paid vacations. The bonus is paid once in the summer and once in the winter, each 2 months salary.
Again, I ask you, how much could you put up with for that? |

Umm...let me see, here. Uhh...I think you guys are on the wrong page. Or am I just tripping, big time? If you answered both, you're right!
I really want to reply to the first one first and have to say that I am having a difficult time mustering the courage to try to spell the poster's user name but here goes...
Hi Nicyvesweet,(scroll down to check and...can't) that has a bit of me in there!
I believe your question was are they mean to me? I will assume you mean the students and not the staff, at this point.
Yes, they are mean. Day in and day out. I have been hearing the word hate thrown around these days so much and its starting to get to me.
I was just thinking that I would do a lesson on it. I would launch into a 45-minute L1 diatribe on how mean they are to me. Probably get sacked, too. |

Spidey my man,
Knew if I cried loud enough you'd hear me.
You will be the first person I call, mate. Would you honestly do it?
If so, please tell me how to do it.
...sure picked the wrong half of my life to quit drinking.

Do you think the kids are being little assholes b/c they see it gets to you-- Or do you think they genuinely hate you? |
