Hunghom is a huge residential area adjacent to Kowloon East. There is a waterfront that is currently being redeveloped or has seen completion of huge estates. If you are lucky you will be within easy walking distance to Tsimshatsui and its tourist traps. The railway terminus used to be here; now it is the last intermediate stop before the tracks end at its new terminus. Heavily-built up, a cultural desert, really. Accommodation in this area probably in the median region.

As Roger mentioned Hunghom has actually become very big, but a lot of it is still very cheap. The newer parts are quite expensive, but there are lots of older parts. It is a really interesting place actually. Full of great little back-streets and traditional HK atmosphere, but a walk on to the main road gives you great access to all parts of HK as it is next to the tunnel that will link you with Causeway bay and in the other direction Jordan, TST and Kowloon.

I worked in one part of Hung Hom for a long time and always found it easy to do things when there was time between classes. If you choose to live there then you can find newer accomodation at a reasonable price and older accomodation quite cheaply. It is easy to travel to from some other areas, but if you need to be there everyday you must choose them wisely.
