Hi Glenski,
Close. I'm at an imitation high school where passing is 30%. If a student comes in below that I am asked to change it.
Enjoy your sunday,

actually in Ireland a pass is 40!
in England its 50!
in China its 60!
but it doesnt mean anything,
in Ireland with our small population and few universities this low mark makes sense and all papers are marked quite hard,
in China all papers are passed, few fail and everybody is happy! that is until they go looking for a place in university with about a million other students as competition

Maybe you guys should just ask students to write their own score in and be done with it. They will pass anyway and it doesnt mean much in the final analysis and is not a true indicator of ability. |

might as well...
There's a univeristy here in Mexico City that caters to children of rich politicos. One-on-one tutoring towards a variety of degrees. The pass mark is measured in dollars, not percentage. |

You mean students can actually fail and not advance to the next grade!? No way! I teach at a JHS and I've seen students sleep the year away without as much as a "5/100" on a test and still advance to the next grade.
What's up with that!?

I have to agree. A good test can be designed if the class is worth it; that is, if you're not just teaching grammar. There are great ways to measure oral fluency and clarity. Most tests, however, are bogus especially when they deal only with grammar. I myself rigged most of the grammar tests I gave to the students by practically giving the answers away. |

Morning D,
You know something, yesterday that occured to me as I was making my way through another day at the mine. I thought to myself as I was walking back to the staff room after an exceptionally lifting lesson, "Ahh man, it was sixty-FOUR!"
Any comments on my other thread? How about coming into the office with me and RE-constructing my job!
Warm regards,

Hey S,
Loved your reference to the "day at the mine". How does one wash off all that dirt at the end of the day?

I know how to take things apart. Don't ask me to put them back together.
BTW, what thread are you referring to? |

Hi Decon,
Umm-hmm...I take many baths, sometimes between lessons, honestly. At first, I attributed this to the cold weather.
That'd be the "what do you do?" thread at Japan forum.
Thanks for that, D. You ARE the man!
Warm regards,
