Hey guys and gals,
This is the first thread in this forum that I've created, so yeah, welcome me! Ha. Anyway, I've lived (studied abroad) in Viet Nam for 6 months already (last year, 2004), and I will be returning to Viet Nam for an additional 6 months of study in 9 days. Yep, that's right. 9 days! I am an undergraduate student at Rice University (located in Houston, TX) and can't get enough of the VN experience.
Anyway, the question I have is about power adapters. I have an iPod, among many other things like shavers, etc. that I was wondering about using with VN's power standards. I know that I can purchase an adapter online, but I need to know of a good one, or if I should just wait until I get into VN again. Someone please help me out.
Also, to all those people who say that you can't be Black (or any other dark skinned variation), can't get a good job without qualifications, etc. DO NOT LET THAT KEEP YOU FROM COMING TO VIETNAM. I am a BLACK/WHITE mixed American, and I got NOTHING BUT LOVE in Viet Nam. I do speak a good amount of Vietnamese and some of my best friends ONLY speak Vietnamese, so that helped a lot, but there is no more racism in Viet Nam than there is in AMERICA! So yeah, follow your dreams guys, believe that!
Always,
Phillyroll in Houston, soon to be Sai Gon (for 18 months!)
Look out for me in the clubs guys, I'll be DJing |

Well then, good luck! You could try SITC for work, I know that the branch in Than Binh District doesn't discriminate, and The International Primary School in District One are also non-dicriminatory in their policies. Just dress nice, speak clearly and smile a lot, make them laugh if possible - that's what usually does the trick for me. |

This link might help out with lots of relocation issues, including electrical plugs:

Thanks a bunch for the advice. I experienced much of the above when I spoke to a few classes the first time I was in VN. I was doing a research project and had to speak to several classes to gather data, and everyone was so nice. I guess it's because I'm 6'4'' and huge, they were more impressed with my size than my color. Thanks again. |

Thanks a lot Kent. I'll def. look up the info, but I'll wait until I get into VN for the more common electrical appliances. |
