You can take the ferry to Shenzhen from the HK airport area or China Hong Kong CityPier in Kowloon. Which one will you take? |

I'm also going to Shenzhen, but have to land in HK. Reading about the travel there, I think it's better to take the coach buses directly to Shenzhen.
It's cheaper, at least. |

i just came back from HK and i stayed at Langham Place Mongkok. I heard it is the most talked about and biggest hotels in HK. But not too cheap. But Canadian standards it was still not back (C$100/night on Travel Agent discount).
Eaton hotel is also one of the 4+ star hotels (also owned by Langham Group).
YMCA is nice and central. But unlike most YMCA it charges HOTEL rates (~$800-900HKD/nite)
hope this helps.
Have fun. |

If you don't have any good reason to spend a night in HK, give the place a miss - it's going to set you back a tidy sum of dough. I would recommend the YMCA in Salisbury Rd., near the Star Ferry, and a 15 minute walk from the Tsimshatsui ferry pier (for mainland-bound ferry trips). IT is a renovated and excellent hotel and not the most expensive one though not cheap by any stretch of imagination. If it is too expensive, go to the Chungking Mansions nearby, or find a guesthouse in Hankow Rd., all pretty close by.
Why would you take a ferry to Shenzhen? The ferry pier in "Shenzhen" actually is in SHEKOU, way out of town but close enough (5 kms) to the Shenzhen University. It is nowhere near a bus terminal or a train station. To catch a long-distance bus or to take the train you need to take the train from HK to Lowu, then cross the border on foot and continue from the train station or bus terminal right next to the Luohu Customshouse.
If you catch the ferry from the airport you save the airport tax and immigration hassles at HK Airport. The trip to HK from CHek Lap Kok takes one hour. Cross-border buses are also available, but they cost twice as much as the cross-border buses from Hong Kong to Guangdong (250 versus 100 dollars HK). |
