Greetings All,

I've been in Taiwan for just over 2 weeks and am currently in Kaoshing. Having successfully found a hotel, at a reasonable price, that doesn't boast roaches was fun. Seriously though, they're probably just hiding from me.

More to the point, I'm interested in what your opinions are of travelling at New Year's. I suppose I can expect my hotel rate to go up at this time of year, and the trains/buses to be packed. Has anybody seen New Year's in Kaoshing? Anything to reccomend?

I've found the air taxing on my lungs in the last couple of days and am concerned that this may not be the place to live though.

Air quality will improve somewhat with warmer weather. However, as the air quality improves, Kaohsiung turns into a steam sauna. Try to get to Kenting or the mountains as often as possible to avoid getting Kaohsiung Lung. This is one of the main reasons we are heading to Kinmen County for our next venture in Taiwan. Quiet, clean and cool Smile If you are looking for a decent employer try IAES in San Ming (near Dollars). Joyce Chen is the owner and she is more than fair as an employer. If you have any problems finding it, go to Bagel Bagel 2 and ask some of the foreigners there the correct address, as I believe her office has moved a block or two since I was there last. She now owns a few schools in Kaohsiung. Century 21 is also in the area and will find apartments for you (for a small fee).
