Does anyone know if they sell Playstation 2 PAL format game disks in China?
I've heard and read that many things are not available in China and I didn't know if Playstation 2 was on the available list or not.
Are new games readily available and are they legit or pirated?
Is PAL the correct china TV DvD format, by the way? |

Is your machine modded? (Has it had a chip put in that lets you play pirated games and games from other regions?)
If yes no problem, you can buy pirated games for 5 - 10 yuan, NTSC or PAL (the disc sets the region not the machine/all TVs here a multi-standard).
If your machine is not modded you will not be able to play pirated games and you will will have a hard time finding legit PAL games here, and you'll pay the full price and then some, in RMB (+- 500 yuan per game - ouch).
If you haven't got a modded machine I would either
get it modded before you come
get it done here
or
have a friend who can send you games from home (this is gonna cost you an arm and a leg.
I am a PS2 owner, any more questions PM me.
BTW, I'm against pirating games software, but living here on our salary there isn't really an alternative. |

How do you get your PS2 modded? Also, I can play pirated movies bought in China on my PS2, are they a different format than pirated games? Thanks.

Anywhere large computer market should have at least one place that sells games and can also mod your PS2. After this, gaming and most movies should be no problem. However my PS2 plays certain DVD's and not others....I have no idea what makes this happen.
AND BEWARE...after moddding the console has to be turned on/off in an exact and slightly weird manner...otherwise the game/movie won't work....Again, I have no idea why........
PM me if you are near Guangzhou and need any details on this.

I just bought the new skinny version of the PS2 in Harbin about a week ago. It came with two new controllers, memory card and 14 games. Paid 1500 RMB for the package. The guy at the shop installed the chip so I could play burnt games. Works great.
I wouldn't play burnt dvd movies on your ps2 though. It'll damage your reader and you'll have to get a new one installed.
Love the PS2.

1500, chip included? not bad.. i think i'll get a modded xbox though, i hear they run for 2000. the hard drive and the ability to stream video over a network is what's going to sell it for me, though. |

Does anyone know if putting a hard drive in a PS2 is easy? Do you just put any ole HD in or is it spec'd to a PS2 only?
I have several extra hard drives and i'd like to install one in my PAL PS2.

yes thats a good point
if you have the chip, DO NOT put in any DVDs, it will *beep* it all up
i did, and it fucked it all up!!!
costs about 200 to repair
i paid roughly the same for my PS2 (1500)
games up north are shit cheap, about 3 kuai for one!!!!!!! and most of them work, some dont like man hunt, which is a pity
and can get all the latest stuuf
in fact I think its harder to get a real PS2 up here, i have never seen one
my fav game at the moment is Tasmanian tiger 2, not as good as the original, but fast addicitive fun |
